PHYSICAL THERAPY FOR RUNNERS
Did you know that over 50% of runners sustain an injury every year?
Whether you are new to running or an experienced recreational/competitive runner, injured or uninjured, you may benefit from physical therapy with a running specialist.
At our clinic, we specialize in evidence-based prevention and treatment of running injuries:
- We evaluate, diagnose and treat runners who have sustained a running-related injury
- We advise runners on proper strategies for preventing injuries
Here are a few examples of the conditions we treat:
BACK Low back pain
HIP Osteoarthritis, Trochanteric bursitis, High hamstring tendinopathy
KNEE Osteoarthritis, Patellar tendinopathy, Patellofemoral pain, Iliotibial band syndrome
THIGH Hamstring strain, Quadriceps strain
LEG Achilles tendinopathy, Shin splint, Tibial stress fracture, Calf muscle strain, Compartment syndrome
FOOT Plantar fasciitis, Metatarsal stress fracture, Metatarsalgia, Morton's neuroma, Bunion
What to expect at the initial evaluation (part of the First Visit)?
The initial evaluation consists of:
- A musculoskeletal assessment: we perform a series of clinical tests and measurements to identify injuries and evaluate muscle strength and flexibility. A thorough foot and ankle assessment is also conducted including footwear and orthoses.
- A biomechanical running analysis: we record a video to analyze your running gait from a variety of different angles.
- An analysis of your training methods
I am injured, what is the typical treatment?
The treatment starts from day one and might include hands-on care and clinical recommendations regarding:
- Your running technique
- Specific therapeutic exercises
- Your training program
- Your shoes and orthoses
- Some taping techniques
« If exercise could be packaged in a pill, it would be the single most widely prescribed and beneficial medicine in the nation. »
